Grounds

Treva Hall, Grounds Volunteer, is requesting several happy gardeners, May 6-16.  Please bring your favorite tools, gloves, and knee pads to work on the following projects.


1. Water shed project (Setting railroad ties and planting lilies to hold back the water between Edwards Cottage and the Cate Administration Building. We are adding 2 tiers).

2. "V" bed at Clapp Auditorium: divide, replant, and restore

3. Crepe Myrtle trimming: Several to work with telescoping pole pruners. Please bring yours if you have one!

4. Miscellaneous weeding, tilling, and planting.

5. Tree planting. New dogwoods are to be planted at the front of Young Lodge.

6. Experienced tree and bush pruners to reshape and thin our beautiful campus.


Painting & Staining

1. Sand and stain rocking chairs from cottage porches. Make repairs necessary to stabilize them

2. Scrape, make repairs, prime and paint 2nd story, exterior windows at Wesley. (Note it is the 2nd story, so comfort on a tall ladder is necessary)

3. Sand, prime, and paint metal entry door on Bishop west entrance

4. Scrape, prime and paint toe kicks and baseboards in Millar kitchen

5. Clean and paint baseboards and door in the office hall bathroom

  1. 6.Preparing and painting foyer to the Chapel at Martin

  2. 7.Painting rooms in Parker Hall, including Kitchen


Carpentry Related

1. Remove and replace tub surround in Cokesbury Apartment (provided it is not occupied)

2. Repair soft subfloor around bathroom HVAC vent in Oaks #4

3. Remove and replace back entry door to Redbud Cottage

4. Form up and pour sidewalks, replacing stones and gravel in 3 places at the front of Oaks cottage

5. Form up and pour a sidewalk from bottom of stairs to asphalt on east side of Dining Hall

6. Replace double pane window in Yancey sunroom east side

7. Repair subfloors and put down self adhesive 12x12 tiles in Wesley 1st floor bathrooms

8. Design and build a compliant handicap ramp and landings for back entrance to Young Lodge


Electrical & Utilities Related

1. Install motion sensor lighting around campus for security and safety

2. Label all breaker/fuse boxes for interior and exterior circuit layouts

3. Mark utility shut-offs in crawl spaces with survey tape or fluorescent paint for quickly access in emergency

locations for each building (as noted in “Book of Buildings”).

4. Troubleshoot Bailey overhead lighting, wiring, 3-way switches, and non-working switches

5. Install ceiling fans in Parker N. E. meeting room


Weatherizing

1. Walk exterior of buildings, sealing holes to prevent mice and insects

2.  Caulk where necessary around windows, doors, and HVAC units

3.  Remove condenser unit covers. Fold, label, and store in bags.

4.  Blow or roll insulation in Barnett Cottage attic

5.  Blow or roll insulation in Cokesbury Apartment attic


General Maintenance 

--Light duty, non-skilled specific

1. Wash glass inside and out of exterior carriage lights, step ladder is necessary

2. Clean return air vent covers

3. Clean bathroom fan covers, fan blades and housing

4. Clean all windows sills, inside and out. Wash screens and replace.

5. Scrub lower cabinets in Millar kitchen to check to see if painting is necessary


--Light duty - skilled

1. Repair wallpaper seams in Kansas cottage rooms

2. Repair dripping faucets in Parker. Clean others with CLR to ease operation and ck washers.


--Medium duty – semi-skilled

1. Remove storm windows for exterior window washing – reinstall

2. Wash exterior windows

3. Make repairs where needed to “clean-outs” waste water pipe covers from mower damage. Frame with rocks to make them noticeable for locating and protection from mower

4. Install gutter guards on South side of Millar Lodge.

5. Install water heater blankets, and pipe insulation on hot water line (Parker Hall, Kansas, Nebraska, Martin, Maintenance Shop, Gift Shop, Sunrise Cottage, Galloway Cottage)

  1. 6.Lay 350 sq. ft. of carpet tiles in Cate Administration Building entry area and move the welcome counter back 8'

  2. 7.Mount 2 large speakers on the wall in Millar Lodge.


Power washing: Please bring a washer if you can, we have only 1

--Strenuous – non-skilled

1. Power wash Oaks Cottage deck, railings, and rockers

2. Power wash tennis court in preparation for resurfacing. Slow and steady.

3. Power wash concrete walks, and porches where needed


SKILLED PROJECTS

Floor Refinishing

1. Sand and refinish Parkay flooring in Bishop’s cottage

2. Weave in remaining hardwood replacing plywood in Parker SE meeting room. Sand, stain, and apply 3 coats of water base poly


Roofs

Tear off's, decking repair, and upgrades are necessary  (these are the most urgent)

1. Sunset Cottage (2-3 layers to tear off)

  1. 2.Redbud Cottage

  2. 3.Nebraska Cottage


Carpet Removal

1. Remove carpet from 1st floor sleeping rooms in Wesley and Parker


Hip Rafter - Specialized professional teams, references needed

1. Replace hip rafter in Parker Hall


Housekeeping

1. Put "zip ties" on lamp cords for safety and a neat appearance near base of lamp

2. Wash windows

3. Clean tub and sink drains of debris and hair.  Need needle nose pliers or tiny drain snake

4. Clean and inspect window blinds. Make note of needed repairs or replacements.



Meeting Spaces - Set Up

1. Remove bugs from overhead light fixtures in Parker and wash the lens

2. Check all older meeting room chairs for needed repairs and bent legs

3. Replace flooring in mens and womens restrooms in cafeteria. Porcelain tile, ceramic tile or sheet vinyl?
